FAQ’s

Have questions about booking a stay or holding your group retreat at Tuscarora? Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions.

LODGING

  • Our standard check-in time is 4:00 PM, and check-out is at 10:00 AM. If your group needs a different schedule, please let us know — we’ll do our best to accommodate your request, though adjustments cannot always be guaranteed.

  • Tuscarora offers flexible pricing based on your lodging choice, length of stay, and the season of your retreat. Because each group or program is unique, we provide customized quotes rather than posting flat rates online. To learn more about group retreat pricing or the cost of one of our Tuscarora programs, please call us at (570) 897-6000 — we’d be happy to walk you through the options.

  • Yes! All group packages include freshly made beds with clean linens upon arrival. For adult retreat packages, one set of towels is also provided per guest. Towels can be added to youth packages for just $2 per person, and extra towel/washcloth sets are available at the front desk for $2 each.

For groups staying more than two nights, fresh towels are automatically provided on the second morning of your retreat.

  • For the comfort of all our guests — and in respect for the staff who live on campus — quiet hours are observed daily from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. This helps ensure everyone can enjoy a restful and refreshing stay.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Yes! Groups are welcome to arrive by coach bus, which can load and unload in the Senum-Thompson Center parking lot. The campus is best accessed by car or group transportation, with the most direct route for buses coming from Route 80 through Portland, PA. If your group plans to travel by bus, let your coordinator know so we can help ensure a smooth arrival.

  • Guests arriving by car are welcome to use our designated parking areas. Long-term parking is available in the large lot by the Senum-Thompson Center. Short-term loading and unloading zones are located near the kitchen/dining room and by the cottages (15 minutes only).

To keep our campus beautiful and safe, we kindly ask that you do not park on the grass.

DINING + MEALS

  • Meals at Tuscarora are a special part of the retreat experience! Guests gather together at the same time and are served family-style, creating a warm and communal atmosphere. To ensure the best experience for everyone, we ask that all guests arrive promptly at the scheduled times:

    • Breakfast – 8:30 AM

    • Lunch – 12:30 PM

    • Dinner – 5:30 PM

(If meal service will look different for your group, your coordinator will let you know in advance.)

  • We want every guest to feel comfortable and cared for at Tuscarora. If you have a medically necessary dietary need, please complete a Special Diet Request Form at least two weeks before your arrival. Our team will do our best to accommodate your request, and if we are unable to meet a specific need, your group coordinator will contact you in advance.

  • To keep our facilities safe and enjoyable for all guests, outside food and beverages are not permitted. However, Tuscarora offers a variety of options to meet your group’s needs — from snack and beverage breaks to pizza parties — all of which can be arranged through your coordinator. You’ll also find a Snack Shop on campus where additional treats and drinks are available for purchase.

MEETING ROOMS

  • Every group is guaranteed one meeting room at no additional cost. If your group would benefit from extra space, secondary rooms may be requested and will be provided as available.

  • Each of our meeting rooms is equipped with a professional sound system designed to make your event run smoothly. For a flat fee of $75 per weekend, you’ll have access to a microphone, podium, and full sound coverage in the room. Our upgraded systems in Oak, Chapel, and Chestnut offer built-in audio, while rooms like Cedar and Cypress include a portable Fender system. Additional audio-visual equipment is also available upon request for a rental fee. If you’d like a seating arrangement other than theatre style, your coordinator will be glad to assist.

  • Meeting rooms are assigned based on group size, but you’re welcome to let us know your preference. We’ll do our best to accommodate requests whenever possible. Please note that room assignments may be adjusted up until the day of your arrival to ensure the best fit for your group and others on campus.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Yes. Televisions are available in Riverside Manor I & II, the Brick House rooms, Inn Room Suites, and Riverview Suites.

All hotel-style rooms and cottages are equipped with phones, and for your convenience, phones are also located in the lobbies of the dormitories and Ribe Lodge.

  • Yes! Guests can connect to our open network, Tuscnet, available across the campus. Just look for the network name—no password needed.

ADDITIONAL POLICIES

  • To ensure the comfort and safety of all guests, pets are not permitted on Tuscarora property.

Service Animals are always welcome. A service animal is defined as one that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Proper documentation must be submitted prior to arrival.

Please note that Emotional Support Animals, while valuable companions, are not considered service animals and therefore are not permitted on campus.

  • We ask all guests to dress with modesty in mind while enjoying our facilities. For swimming, modest one-piece bathing suits are required. Bikinis and men’s swim briefs are not permitted.

  • For the comfort and well-being of all guests, alcohol is not permitted anywhere on Tuscarora’s grounds.

Smoking is not allowed inside buildings or within 15 feet of entrances, but designated outdoor smoking areas are available on campus.

  • For the safety and comfort of all guests, certain items are not permitted on Tuscarora’s grounds. These include (but are not limited to):

    • Fireworks or explosives

    • Flammable liquids or materials

    • Smoke-producing products such as candles or incense

    • Illicit drugs or non-prescription substances

    • Weapons of any kind (including firearms)

    • Devices powered by e-bike or similar lithium batteries, due to fire risk

If you have questions about a specific item, please contact your coordinator before your retreat.
