The Food Service Manager fills a vital leadership role at Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center and is a full-time, year-round position. The Food Service Manager must be fully committed to the mission of Tuscarora, to the task of maintaining a Christ-like environment in the kitchen, dining room, and Snack Shop, and to motivate and direct their staff to excellency and success.
EXECUTIVE WORKING CHEF
Organizational Overview:
Tuscarora’s mission is to serve the Christian community by providing programs and facilities for worship, teaching, counseling, and physical refreshment, focusing on the Bible as our standard for living.
Position Purpose:
The Executive Working Chef fills a vital leadership role at Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center and is a full-time, year-round position. The Food Service Manager must be fully committed to the mission of Tuscarora, to the task of maintaining a Christ-like environment in the kitchen, dining room, and Snack Shop, and to motivate and direct their staff to excellence and success. This individual should also have a desire to stay current with new menu trends and current nutritional information.
Requirements:
Must have a food service related degree and two years of related experience, or five years of related experience.
Demonstrated strong technical culinary skills, including advanced cooking techniques, kitchen equipment operation, and food safety practices
Experience in culinary leadership, including management and supervisory roles
ServSafe certification
Commitment to maintaining a professional appearance and setting the standard for a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Preferred but not required: experience in Christian camping
Responsibilities:
Plan a menu for guests and staff with an emphasis on creativity, quality, nutrition, and appearance with consideration for the type of guests present
Hire, train, and supervise all staff in the kitchen and Snack Shop in every aspect of their job.
Work alongside kitchen staff to prepare meals and coordinate remotely served snacks and receptions
Order food and supplies in a cost efficient manner utilizing group buying, rebate programs, and vendor incentives
Ensure proper storage of all supplies, food to be served, and leftovers to minimize waste
Model and enforce high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in all kitchen and Snack Shop areas, ensuring a professional environment at all times
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local health codes
Oversee evolving needs for dietary restrictions, special events, community meals, government regulations, and cleaning standards
Participate in staff meetings, long-range planning, and event planning and debrief sessions to ensure food service integrates seamlessly with Tuscarora’s overall ministry goals
Conducting Monthly meetings with all kitchen staff. To evaluate the past month, what is happening the coming month. Celebrate what is going well. Discussing what needs to improve.
Conducting annual reviews with kitchen staff. detailing strengths, weaknesses and expectations.
Work alongside the management team to ensure the success of the ministry of Tuscarora
Model Christ-like character and servant leadership within the department, encouraging and supporting staff in both their professional and spiritual growth
Salary and Benefits:
The Food Service Manager salary is commensurate with experience and education. Employer provided housing is a possibility. Other benefits associated with full-time employment are available upon request.
